Naomi and Micah chose to get married at Echo, a waterfront venue right here in Burlington, VT. It is a beautiful place. A modern and funky building placed on the lovely shores of Lake Champlain. It has lots of windows for natural light to pour in, as well as having plenty of fun lights of its own--a built in bubble light tower, an under the sea blue light, and reflective water everywhere. By day it is a science center where research and education take place, with a focus on the environment surrounding Lake Champlain. It's a place where both Kirstin and I (Carin) have spent many hours with our children, playing and learning.
When a couple gets married, choosing a venue can be difficult. It says so much about them, who they are, who they want to be as a couple. As photographers, we have had the opportunity to photograph people in so many different places. The location Naomi and Micah made was so perfect for who they are as people. They are a fun, modern, creative couple and the building served as a reflection of this -- of who they are. They care deeply about their surroundings, whether it be their relationships with friends and family, or with the natural world. And they know how to be serious and to play!
The location, of course, is not the heart of what we photograph, though. It is the people and their connections. It was all about Naomi, Micah, and their family and friends. About them, I can echo what I said about the building: "fun, modern, funky, filled with light." Sums them up perfectly.
